Rilmenidine hemifumarate
I1 Imidazoline Receptor/α2-Adrenoceptor Agonist
Rilmenidine hemifumarate is a selective I1 imidazoline receptor agonist and an α2-adrenoceptor agonist. It demonstrates significant antihypertensive effects by reducing sympathetic nervous system activity and inhibiting the Na+/H+ antiport in renal tissues. Additionally, Rilmenidine hemifumarate has been shown to induce autophagy and modulate cellular proliferation while upregulating the pro-apoptotic protein Bax, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis in human leukemic K562 cells. This compound is valuable for research involving hypertension, cancer cell biology, and the mechanisms of apoptosis.
