Uricosuric Antihypertensive Diuretic
S-8666 is an orally active uricosuric antihypertensive diuretic that targets the organic acid transport system for secretion through the proximal tubule. The compound comprises both S-(-)- and R-(+)-isomers, with the S-(-)-isomer demonstrating significant diuretic and sodium-excretion activities, while the R-(+)-isomer remains largely inactive. S-8666 effectively promotes uric acid excretion and exhibits diuretic effects across various species, including rats and chimpanzees, making it a valuable agent for studies on hypertension and uric acid-related disorders.
