SL-017

SL-017 is a novel photoacoustic sensitizer and a derivative of photofrin B that predominantly targets mitochondria. Upon activation by visible light or ultrasound, SL-017 significantly enhances the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induces a rapid decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential, leading to mitochondrial fragmentation. This reagent demonstrates potential utility in photodynamic therapy and sonodynamic therapy, making it a valuable tool for research focusing on mitochondrial function and therapeutic strategies involving ROS modulation. Additionally, it has been observed that epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) may mitigate the effects on membrane potential, enhancing its applicability in diverse experimental settings.
