Sparsomycin

Metabolite

Sparsomycin is a metabolite derived from the bacterium Streptomyces sparsogenes, primarily targeting protein synthesis. It effectively inhibits translation elongation at the peptidyl transferase center (PTC) of ribosomes in both eukaryotic cells and bacteria. This unique mechanism makes Sparsomycin a valuable tool for studying protein synthesis and investigating the underlying mechanisms of antibiotic action in microbial and mammalian systems.
