Strophanthidin

Cardiac Glycoside

Strophanthidin is a cardiac glycoside that primarily targets the Na+/K+-ATPase enzyme. It exhibits dose-dependent effects, enhancing Na+/K+-ATPase activity at 0.1 and 1 nmol/L concentrations, while inhibiting it at concentrations ranging from 1 to 100 μmol/L. At higher concentrations (10 and 100 nmol/L), it does not alter ATPase activity. Additionally, Strophanthidin significantly increases both diastolic and systolic intracellular Ca2+ concentrations, making it a valuable reagent for studying cardiac contractility and calcium signaling in cardiac research.
