Tabernanthine

Sinoatrial Node Receptor Inhibitor

Tabernanthine is a selective inhibitor of sinoatrial node receptors, functioning primarily as a negative chronotropic and negative inotropic agent. By directly modulating heart rhythm and myocardial contractility, it effectively slows heart rate and reduces myocardial contractility without involvement of vagal nerve or cholinergic pathways, demonstrating atropine resistance and non-cholinergic binding properties. This compound is valuable for cardiovascular pharmacology research, particularly in investigations of sinoatrial node functionality, mechanisms underlying bradycardia, and the analysis of cardiac receptor subtype variations.
