Tauromustine

Anticancer Agent

Tauromustine is an orally active nitrosourea with significant anticancer properties, primarily functioning through DNA alkylation and damage. It demonstrates potent efficacy in various cancer models, including Walker 256 rat sarcoma, melanoma, breast cancer, pleural mesothelioma, and ovarian cancer. With a favorable therapeutic index, tauromustine is metabolized in the liver, producing cytotoxic metabolites that contribute to its overall activity. This compound is valuable for research applications aimed at understanding cancer mechanisms and developing effective therapeutic strategies.
