Theaflavin-3-gallate

Anticancer Agent

Theaflavin-3-gallate is a prominent monomer derived from black tea that serves as an anticancer agent. It demonstrates prooxidant activity, inducing oxidative stress in carcinoma cells, particularly by interacting with reduced glutathione (GSH) in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Theaflavin-3-gallate is known to promote apoptosis and G1 phase cell cycle arrest in ovarian cancer A2780/CP70 cells via p53-dependent pathways, while also causing DNA damage through the ATM/Chk/p53 signaling cascade. This compound is valuable for research applications focused on cancer biology and chemotherapeutic development.
