Thiamine triphosphoric acid ester

Neuroactive Compound

Thiamine triphosphoric acid ester, also known as thiamine triphosphate (ThTP), functions as a neuroactive compound involved in cellular metabolism and signal transduction. This triphosphate derivative of vitamin B1 is found across various biological systems, including microorganisms, animal organs, and plants. In Escherichia coli, ThTP is synthesized transiently under amino acid deficiency conditions, while in mammalian cells, it is produced continuously at low levels. It is synthesized through the actions of enzymes such as cytosolic adenylate kinase 1 (AK1) and FoF1-ATP synthase present in brain mitochondria, underscoring its significance in fundamental biological processes.
