Thianthrene

PTR1 Inhibitor

Thianthrene is a selective inhibitor of Leishmania donovani pteridine reductase 1 (PTR1), demonstrating potent inhibitory activity against intracellular amastigotes of Leishmania donovani with an IC50 of 23 μM. This sulfur-containing tricyclic compound is also noted for its moderate anthelmintic properties. Additionally, Thianthrene may interfere with RNA function and protein synthesis, and it has been shown to stimulate liver regeneration in vivo. Its diverse biological activities make Thianthrene a valuable compound for research in parasitology and regenerative medicine.
