trans-Aconitic acid

Aconitase Inhibitor

trans-Aconitic acid is a potent inhibitor of aconitase, functioning both non-competitively to obstruct the conversion of citric acid to cis-aconitic acid and competitively to inhibit the transformation of cis-aconitic acid to isocitric acid. It demonstrates significant biological activity by inhibiting the growth of Leishmania donovani promastigotes and the transformation of amastigotes to promastigotes. Additionally, trans-Aconitic acid affects the in vitro proliferation of Leishmania donovani amastigotes within macrophages, making it a valuable reagent for research on visceral leishmaniasis.
