Trehalose 6,6′-dimycolate

MTB Mimic

Trehalose 6,6'-dimycolate (cord factor) is a cell wall glycolipid derived from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) that functions as an MTB mimic. This compound is known to induce inflammation and granuloma formation, characteristic of MTB infections. Additionally, trehalose 6,6'-dimycolate confers protection to Mycobacterium tuberculosis against macrophage-mediated killing, inhibits effective antigen presentation, and diminishes the generation of protective T cell responses, making it a valuable tool for research on tuberculosis immunology and pathogenesis.
