Tyrosine 3-monooxygenase

Rate-limiting Enzyme

Tyrosine 3-monooxygenase, also known as tyrosine hydroxylase, is a crucial rate-limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of catecholamines. It catalyzes the hydroxylation of L-tyrosine to L-DOPA, which is the first and essential step in the production of key neurotransmitters such as dopamine, noradrenaline, and adrenaline. This enzyme is commonly studied in neurobiology and endocrinology to understand disorders related to catecholamine imbalance and to explore therapeutic targets for related diseases.
