Uracil

Pyrimidine Derivative

Uracil is a pyrimidine derivative that functions as one of the four nucleobases in RNA. It commonly arises as a result of cytosine deamination, which can lead to DNA base damage and mutations during replication. Uracil's incorporation into nucleic acids can disrupt transcriptional fidelity, potentially leading to the synthesis of mutant proteins. This reagent is useful in studies of nucleic acid metabolism, mutagenesis, and the mechanisms of transcriptional regulation.
