Verrucarin A

Protein Synthesis Inhibitor

Verrucarin A is a Type D macrocyclic mycotoxin that acts as a potent inhibitor of protein synthesis. Derived from the pathogenic fungus Myrothecium verrucaria, Verrucarin A demonstrates significant anti-leukemic activity by inducing apoptosis and activating caspase cascades in leukemia cell lines. Moreover, it modulates inflammatory signaling in macrophages by increasing p38 MAPK phosphorylation while decreasing ERK/Akt phosphorylation, leading to cell cycle dysregulation through the induction of p21 and p53. This compound is valuable for research into cancer biology and inflammation.
