Ziapin 2

Membrane Potential Modulators/Intramembrane Photoactuators

Ziapin 2 is a membrane potential modulator and intracellular membrane photoactuator that targets bacterial plasma membranes. Upon incorporation into the lipid bilayer, Ziapin 2 undergoes trans-cis isomerization when exposed to 470 nm light, resulting in membrane hyperpolarization and the activation of ion channels. By interacting with lipids, Ziapin 2 enhances the flexibility of the lipid bilayer and can form photosensitive transmembrane dimers, facilitating cellular signal transduction. This compound is useful for investigating bacterial electrical signaling and manipulating membrane properties in research settings.
