18:0,18:1 PS

Phosphatidylserine

18:0,18:1 PS is a phosphatidylserine subtype that plays a crucial role in cellular membranes, particularly in the brain, exosomes, and HIV particles. This compound is essential for maintaining membrane integrity, lipid raft organization, and intracellular trafficking. It facilitates interleaflet membrane coupling through cholesterol-dependent interactions with very long-chain sphingolipids and promotes the clustering of glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored proteins. Furthermore, clusters formed by the interaction of 18:0,18:1 PS with cholesterol enhance its distribution in lipid bilayers while providing protection against oxidative damage. Research applications include studies on membrane dynamics, lipid metabolism, and the role of phospholipids in cell signaling.
