Vitamin D Analog

1α-Hydroxyvitamin D5 is a vitamin D analog that exhibits minimal hypercalcemic effects. This compound effectively modulates the pro-fibrotic response of colonic myofibroblasts to transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) and high-stiffness environments by inhibiting α-smooth muscle actin (αSMA) expression, FAK phosphorylation, and gene expression of MLCK and endothelin-1 (ET-1). Additionally, it activates the anti-inflammatory IL-1β/COX-2 pathway, making it a valuable research tool for investigating intestinal fibrosis related to Crohn's disease.
