2,3-Oxidosqualene

药物中间体

2,3-Oxidosqualene is an important precursor in sterol biosynthesis, acting as a key intermediate in the formation of sterols and triterpenes. This compound is involved in cyclization pathways that introduce the characteristic 3-hydroxyl group to these lipids. In rat liver homogenates, 2,3-Oxidosqualene is metabolically generated from squalene under conditions conducive to sterol synthesis, converting to various sterols such as cholesterol, lathosterol, and lanost-8-en-3β-ol in anaerobic settings. It serves as a valuable reagent in research investigating sterol biosynthesis and related pathways.
