3-Deaza-2'-deoxyadenosine

Antiviral agent

3-Deaza-2'-deoxyadenosine, a nucleoside analog derived from 2'-deoxyadenosine, functions primarily as an antiviral agent. It exerts its biological activity by inhibiting RNA synthesis through its binding to ribose fragments of ribonucleotides, thus disrupting enzyme-substrate complexes and hindering chain elongation. Additionally, it can impede DNA synthesis by interacting with deoxyribose fragments, preventing DNA polymerase from incorporating nucleotides. This compound is valuable for research in antiviral therapy and nucleic acid synthesis mechanisms.
