5,7-Dihydroxytryptamine hydrobromide

Neurotoxin

5,7-Dihydroxytryptamine hydrobromide is a neurotoxin that selectively targets serotonergic (5-HT) and noradrenergic (NE) neurons. It functions by binding to the high-affinity transporters of these neurons, facilitating their uptake and subsequent metabolism to reactive oxygen species, leading to axonal terminal degeneration and neurochemical depletion. This compound is valuable for neuroscience research, particularly in studies exploring serotonergic and noradrenergic system dysfunctions.
