5α-Hydroxy-6-keto cholesterol

β-epoxide Metabolite

5α-Hydroxy-6-keto cholesterol is a significant metabolite of β-epoxide (5α,6β-epoxycholesterol) generated during the exposure of human bronchial epithelial cells (16-HBE) to ozone. This compound acts as an inhibitor of cholesterol synthesis, exhibiting an IC50 value of 350 nM. It is valuable for research into oxidative stress and its effects on cholesterol metabolism in respiratory epithelial cells.
