6-Hydroxymelatonin

Melatonin Metabolite

6-Hydroxymelatonin is a primary metabolite of melatonin, formed via metabolism by CYP1A2, with the ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. This compound exhibits potent free radical scavenging and antioxidant properties, effectively mitigating oxidative damage induced by various neurotoxins. Additionally, it can induce oxidative DNA damage in the presence of copper ions through a "non-quinone" redox cycling mechanism, making it a valuable tool for research into neuroprotective strategies and oxidative stress-related studies.
