9-cis-β-Carotene

Photoreceptor Protector

9-cis-β-Carotene is a precursor of retinal that targets beta-carotene oxygenase 1 (BCMO1) to yield 9-cis-retinal. This compound has demonstrated protective effects against photoreceptor degeneration and has been shown to restore retinal function in vivo. Its properties make it valuable for research into conditions such as congenital stationary night blindness and fundus albipunctatus.
