all-trans-Anhydro Retinol

Vitamin A Metabolite

All-trans-Anhydro Retinol, a notable vitamin A metabolite, is generated through the dehydration of vitamin A alcohol and its esters under specific conditions such as acidic catalysis. Although its biological activity is approximately 0.4% that of Vitamin A, it serves as an important compound for studying vitamin A metabolism. In animal studies, particularly in rats, All-trans-Anhydro Retinol can be converted into hydroxy derivatives and their esters, but it does not facilitate the conversion back into Vitamin A and exhibits a limited storage capacity within the body.
