Annonacin

Mitochondrial Complex I Inhibitor

Annonacin is a potent inhibitor of mitochondrial Complex I, disrupting the electron transport chain and leading to decreased ATP production. This compound has demonstrated significant cytotoxic effects against various cancer cell lines, including ovarian, cervical, breast, bladder, and skin cancers, by inducing apoptosis through Bax and Caspase-3 pathways. Additionally, Annonacin affects sodium/potassium and sarcoplasmic reticulum ATPase pumps, contributing to its overall biological activity. It serves as a valuable tool for research into cancer therapy and mitochondrial dysfunction.
