Bisaramil hydrochloride

Antiarrhythmic Agent

Bisaramil hydrochloride is an antiarrhythmic agent that primarily targets sodium channels to inhibit free radical generation. This compound effectively blocks sodium currents and modulates calcium action potentials in cardiomyocytes following isoproterenol exposure. It has demonstrated the ability to decrease heart rate and prolong electrocardiographic intervals (PR, QRS, and QT), while also reducing cardiac conduction velocity and enhancing the effective refractory period. Additionally, Bisaramil hydrochloride is capable of mitigating ventricular arrhythmias and preventing mortality associated with ventricular fibrillation in ischemic rat models, making it a valuable tool for cardiac research applications.
