CHAPS hydrate

Ionic Detergent/Micelle Forming Agent

CHAPS hydrate is a zwitterionic detergent derived from cholic acid, functioning primarily as a micelle-forming agent. It offers weak cationic or nonionic surfactant properties, undergoing micellization to form hydrophilic aggregates that are sensitive to temperature changes. CHAPS hydrate is instrumental in stabilizing mononucleosomes across various ionic strengths, facilitating histone core sliding along DNA, and solubilizing Tamm‑Horsfall protein to improve urinary exosome isolation. This reagent is widely employed in the recovery of native folded fusion proteins, enhancing GST fusion protein binding capacity, and maintaining protein activity during membrane protein research, although it is ineffective for refolding proteins denatured by strong agents.
