Collagenase IV, Clostridium histolytica

Zinc peptidase, Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs)

Collagenase IV, derived from Clostridium histolyticum, acts as a zinc peptidase and belongs to the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family. This enzyme specifically degrades type IV and type VII collagen, essential components of the basement membrane, while also effectively breaking down elastin and other components of the extracellular matrix. Collagenase IV is widely utilized in research applications involving tissue dissociation, cell isolation, and the study of matrix remodeling processes.
