DL-Penicillamine

Copper Chelating Agent

DL-Penicillamine is a copper chelating agent utilized in the treatment of conditions related to copper overload. It exhibits antidotal properties in thallotoxicosis and can mitigate toxicity when used alongside Prussian blue. While effective, DL-Penicillamine is also associated with potential side effects, such as inducing pyridoxine deficiency and optic axial neuritis, as well as the suppression of the primary immune response. This compound serves as a valuable tool in research applications focused on metal ion interactions and immune system modulation.
