Dulcite

Sugar Alcohol

Dulcite, also known as dulcitol or Melampyrit, is a sugar alcohol formed through the reduction of galactose via aldose reductase in non-insulin-dependent cells. It is utilized in biochemical studies focused on carbohydrate metabolism and osmotic regulation. Dulcite's ability to modulate osmotic pressure makes it relevant for research into conditions related to cellular osmoregulation and diabetic complications.
