Eriochrome black T, Indicator

Metal Ion Indicators

Eriochrome Black T is a metal ion indicator primarily targeting Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions. This complexing agent is widely utilized in complexometric titrations, where it forms colored complexes with metal ions, signaling the endpoint through a noticeable color change. Additionally, Eriochrome Black T serves as an anionic azo dye in photocatalytic degradation studies, allowing for the assessment of photocatalyst efficiency. In loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), the dye's color transitions from purple to sky blue upon the consumption of Mg2+, indicating a positive reaction, with an optimal concentration of 60 μM for effective detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis at a sensitivity of 1 pg DNA per reaction.
