Ferrichrome Iron-free is a hydroxamate siderophore that functions as a biochemical assay reagent by chelating and facilitating iron uptake. It effectively serves as a heterosiderophore for various bacteria, notably Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. In research applications, Ferrichrome (0.8 μM) demonstrates notable inhibition of concanavalin A-induced proliferation of mouse spleen monocytes, as well as a reduction in the number of stimulated CD4+ T cells expressing the IL-2 receptor. Additionally, it inhibits heme-catalyzed oxidation of LDL in a concentration-dependent manner.
