γ-Glutamylornithine

Metabolite

γ-Glutamylornithine is a metabolite formed through the conjugation of glutamate and ornithine. It is prominently excreted in the urine of patients with HHH syndrome, characterized by hyperuricemia, hyperaminemia, and hypercitrullinuria. Elevated levels of endogenous ornithine can lead to increased urine concentrations of γ-Glutamylornithine, making it a noteworthy biomarker for metabolic disorders linked to these conditions. This compound is useful in research on amino acid metabolism and associated pathologies.
