Glucosylceramide (gaucher's spleen)

Sphingolipid

Glucosylceramide is a sphingolipid that plays a significant role in cellular signaling and membrane structure. This compound is found in both neuronal and non-neuronal mammalian tissues, as well as in trace amounts in various plant species. Elevated levels of glucosylceramides contribute to cellular protection and facilitate cell proliferation, but they are also associated with obesity-related insulin resistance in murine models and neurodegenerative deficits specific to neuronopathic Gaucher disease. This reagent can be utilized in studies exploring lipid metabolism, cellular signaling pathways, and the pathophysiology of related metabolic disorders.
