Hydralazine

DNA Methyltransferase Inhibitor

Hydralazine is a potent DNA methyltransferase inhibitor that effectively crosses the blood-brain barrier. It reactivates silenced tumor suppressor genes through DNA demethylation, while also demonstrating vasodilatory effects and neuroprotective activities. Key biological effects include inhibition of NOS-2 (iNOS) and COX-2, leading to reduced nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 production, as well as the scavenging of reactive oxygen species and suppression of macrophage activation. Hydralazine has applications in research related to hypertension, various cancers, spinal cord injury, and the mechanisms underlying inflammatory pain.
