LacCer (d18:1/16:0)

Sphingolipid

LacCer (d18:1/16:0) is a bioactive sphingolipid that primarily targets membrane microdomains, interacting with Lyn kinase and the αi subunits of inhibitory G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Its elevated levels are associated with insulin resistance, particularly noted in cattle, and it shows upregulation in models of Niemann-Pick type C1 disease, a neurodegenerative cholesterol-sphingolipid lysosomal storage disorder. LacCer (d18:1/16:0) serves as a valuable reagent for research into metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases, providing insights into sphingolipid metabolism and cell signaling.
