Malabaricone C

Sphingomyelin Synthase Inhibitor

Malabaricone C is a noncompetitive inhibitor of sphingomyelin synthase (SMS), demonstrating IC50 values of 3 μM for SMS 1 and 1.5 μM for SMS 2. This compound has been shown to reduce body weight gain, enhance glucose tolerance, and decrease hepatic lipid accumulation, effectively preventing high-fat diet-induced fatty liver in murine models. Additionally, Malabaricone C exhibits anti-inflammatory properties, making it a valuable tool for research into obesity and immune disorders linked to T-cell hyperactivation. Its source is the fruit of Myristica cinnamomea King.
