N-Formyldemecolcine

Colchicine Precursor

N-Formyldemecolcine is a colchicine precursor featuring the distinctive tropolone ring and essential pharmacophore of colchicine. This compound is critical for studying the biosynthesis of colchicine and can be synthesized through genetic engineering of transgenic Nicotiana benthamiana using atypical cytochrome P450s. Its application in research focuses on unraveling the complex pathways involved in alkaloid production and investigating anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties of colchicine derivatives.
