Ningnanmycin

Antiviral Agent

Ningnanmycin is an antiviral agent derived from plant sources that targets viral coat proteins. It effectively inhibits the assembly of the Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) coat protein by binding to specific residues, leading to disassembly into monomers and reducing pathogenicity. Additionally, Ningnanmycin interferes with coat protein interactions in Potato Virus Y (PVY), blocking virion assembly and replication. Through the induction of antiviral response genes PRXIIB, PRXIIE, PUB4, and PER42, Ningnanmycin activates the host defense mechanisms, making it valuable for research on TMV and PVY infections.
