Paromomycin

Antimalarial Agent

Paromomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that primarily targets the 16S rRNA A-site, leading to alterations in ribosomal conformation and ultimately inhibiting protein synthesis. This compound exhibits significant antimalarial activity and demonstrates efficacy against various parasitic infections, including those caused by Leishmania species, Entamoeba histolytica, and Cryptosporidium parvum. Paromomycin is a valuable tool for researchers exploring therapeutic strategies for leishmaniasis, amoebiasis, and cryptosporidiosis.
