Pentamidine dimesylate

Antimicrobial Agent

Pentamidine dimesylate is an antimicrobial agent that targets DNA biosynthesis. It demonstrates significant inhibitory activity against the parasite Leishmania infantum, with an IC50 of 2.5 μM. This compound also selectively inhibits protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPases) and phosphatase of regenerating liver (PRL), indicating its potential in the treatment of Gambian trypanosomiasis, antimony-resistant leishmaniasis, and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. Additionally, pentamidine dimesylate exhibits notable antitumor and antibacterial properties, making it a valuable tool for biological research and therapeutic applications.
