Pentamidine

Antimicrobial Agent

Pentamidine is an antimicrobial agent that interferes with DNA biosynthesis and exhibits inhibitory activity against the parasite Leishmania infantum, with an IC50 value of 2.5 μM. Additionally, pentamidine serves as a potent and selective inhibitor of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPases) and phosphatase of regenerating liver (PRL). It holds promise for the treatment of Gambian trypanosomiasis, antimony-resistant leishmaniasis, and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, while also demonstrating antitumor and antibacterial properties.
