Pheanthine

Antiplasmodial Agent

Pheanthine is an antiplasmodial agent that targets chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum K-1, exhibiting an IC50 of 0.8 μM, and effectively inhibits chloroquine-sensitive P. falciparum strain NF54 A19A with an IC50 of 0.03 μM. Additionally, Pheanthine demonstrates low cytotoxicity, with an IC50 of 11.2 μM in human lung fibroblast (MRC-5) cells and 8 μM in macrophages (PMM). This compound is of interest for researchers investigating malaria therapeutics and the development of new antiplasmodial strategies.
