Populin

Aldose Reductase Inhibitor

Populin, also known as Populoside, is a phenolic glucoside that functions as an aldose reductase inhibitor, exhibiting an IC50 of 18.55 μM. It demonstrates significant antioxidant activity, with IC50 values of 6.76 µM and 1.69 mM in DPPH and ABTS radical-scavenging assays, respectively. By reducing D-sorbitol accumulation, Populin may be useful in investigating the pathophysiology of diabetic complications and exploring therapeutic interventions in diabetes-related research.
