SET-12 is an antiparasitic agent specifically targeting Leishmania amazonensis, demonstrating strong activity with an IC₅₀ of 10.89 μM for the pre-flagellated form and an enhanced selectivity index (SI) of 12.1. In the non-flagellated form, SET-12 exhibits even greater efficacy, achieving an IC₅₀ of 3.81 μM and a remarkable SI of 34.5. The compound induces apoptosis in parasites, characterized by mitochondrial dysfunction and reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, making it a valuable tool for research into leishmaniasis treatment strategies.
