SPD-502 sodium

iGluR

SPD-502 sodium is a selective antagonist of the AMPA receptor, primarily targeting the iGluR for neuroprotective effects. This compound exhibits a high affinity (IC50 = 0.043 μM) and competitively inhibits AMPA-induced activity in rat cortical membranes and cultured mouse cortical neurons. In vivo studies demonstrate that SPD-502 sodium blocks AMPA-evoked spike activity in the hippocampus, effectively increasing seizure threshold in mice and offering significant protection against ischemia-induced neuronal damage in gerbils. These properties suggest that SPD-502 sodium is valuable for researching neurodegenerative diseases linked to glutamate excitotoxicity.
