Sulfadoxine

Antiparasitic Agent

Sulfadoxine is a long-acting sulfonamide antiparasitic agent that primarily inhibits the growth of parasites by blocking dihydropteroate synthase in the folate synthesis pathway. It is commonly used in combination therapies for the treatment of malaria and can also be effective against certain bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory and urinary tracts. Additionally, sulfadoxine has been shown to inhibit HIV replication in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, making it of interest in virology research applications.
