Sulfo galactosylceramide

Glycolipid

Sulfo galactosylceramide is a glycolipid that serves as a critical component of mature myelin. It has been shown to interact with C-type lectins and immunoglobulin-like receptors, particularly exhibiting high affinity for LMIR5. This compound induces MCP-1 production in basophils and enhances NFAT activation through LMIR5. In research applications, sulfo galactosylceramide demonstrates therapeutic potential by alleviating symptoms and improving survival in mouse models of chronic relapsing-remitting experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), while also reducing inflammatory lesions and infiltrating mononuclear cells in spinal cord tissues.
