Tempone

Metabolically Active Contrast Agent

Tempone (4-Oxo-Tempo) functions as a stable, water-soluble nitroxide radical and serves as a metabolically active contrast agent. Its primary applications include enhancing metabolic activity and assessing hypoxic sensitivity through electron spin resonance spectroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging, and dynamic nuclear polarization. Tempone exhibits superoxide dismutase (SOD)-mimetic activity, effectively reducing superoxide radicals and limiting the production of hydroxyl radicals and peroxynitrites. This compound is valuable in investigations of ischemia-reperfusion injury and acute renal failure.
